PATCH22, a residential building in Amsterdam-Noord, in the north of the city, constructed from laminated timber and cross-laminated timber, was awarded two prizes last week: the Residential Award 2016 by World Architecture News, and a Green Award 2017 by The Chicago Atheneum Museum of Architecture and Design. The World Architecture News jury praised the flexibility of the 30-m high wooden building, which is notable for the free height between floors of 4 metres, the flexible layout, and the possibility of interchanging functions between living and working. The wooden elements were made by the Belgian manufacturer Korlam.
PATCH22 was previously nominated for the Zuiderkerk prize 2016 for the best residential building in Amsterdam, and for the ARC16 innovation award.
PATCH22 is a project by architect Tom Frantzen and construction manager Claus Oussoren, who jointly founded project development company Lemniskade Projects back in 2010.
Lemniskade Projects will soon start building Top-Up at the same site next to PATCH22. This concerns a wooden building built on an old concrete cable storage facility, with up to 24 lofts each boasting 95 to 480 m2 of floor space.
