On the beach plateau of Castricum, Breddels Architects designed a new sustainable overnight accommodation together with architect Petra Kramer: Beach hotel Zoomers. The design is loosely based on the former tea house of the owner’s parents, also known as Duinzicht and later de Jutter. In addition, the new beach hotel has also been given the ‘look and feel’ of the nearby Beach Pavilion Zoomers. They also complement each other.
A hotel on the beach is unique to Castricum. Tourists were in the coastal village, but there was no accommodation by the sea yet. The hotel is built energy neutral with natural and sustainable materials and systems. In view of a gas-free future, the building has no gas connection. It is heated by a huge pellet stove that burns small wood pellets. This heats large water heaters for hot water. A total of 280 solar panels for electricity will be installed on the roofs of the new Strandhotel and Strandpaviljoen Zoomers. This achieves an EPC value of zero.
