Architect LKSVDD about Noorderbreedte Diemen: The idea behind a ‘broad school’ – which is basically what the new building in Diemen Noord is about – is that a school building should be more than just a place to educate children. By creating connections between school, home and free time, schools can broaden their reach and make a great contribution to the community development in a neighbourhood.
In our opinion and that of the school we were very successful in delivering on this education concept in the best possible way. The building is sustainable, modern and contemporary. Multifunctional in character and designed in such a way that fits beautifully in the surrounding area.
It is composed of six transparent and well-organised units surrounding an open, central heart. The teaching units have closed multi-purpose instruction areas. The theatre stairway in the central heart of the building is the logistical connector. It is a meeting place, a place for relaxation and bleachers all in one.
