Langedijk was given a new centre through the development of Broekerplein. The shopping mall was extended and given an entirely new look with a big entrance and parking on the parking deck. On the north side of the area Woningbouwvereniging Langedijk and Van Wijnen Projectontwikkeling realised new housing in the form of an apartment complex with 83 owner-occupied and regulated rental apartments. Van Wijnen Projectontwikkeling also created new housing on the south side of Broekerplein in the form of approx. 85 owner-occupied residences.
The surrounding area underwent a metamorphosis as well. The square was modeled on the islands of the Thousand Islands realm and was given a convivial and warm look with benches and other seating. The ‘village square’ offers sufficient space for a weekly market. In short, Broekerplein is a great place to meet up with others.
From the village square one overlooks the islands of the Museum Broekerveiling’s garden. A new apartment building is planned for the north side of Broekerplein. The development of Broekerplein has ensured that all areas of Langedijk can now be reached by water. In addition to being able to sail through the plan area from east to west, it will also be possible to sail through the area from north to south. In time, this connection could be extended in the direction of Sint Pancras. In other words; it won’t be long before you can go shopping by boat!
