Borgerink Architecten, in collaboration with Dura Vermeer Bouw Hengelo and partners, designed the construction of a residential complex for elderly people with dementia for Zorggroep Almere. The beautiful and energy-neutral building stands on the Floriadeterrein in Almere.
The Flora residential care centre will already be occupied during Floriade Expo 2022. The Roman goddess Flora was the goddess of spring and flowers and was partly the source of inspiration for the building’s name.Spread over six floors, various homes and meeting places have been built with a great deal of attention for what people can continue to do despite their dementia. An experience garden, which continues to grow with beautiful flowers and plants throughout the year, stimulates the residents.
After Floriade Expo 2022, Flora will remain as part of the future green residential area Hortus. Even then, the residential care centre will be surrounded by greenery.
