Starting in 2010, the Geert Groote College has been expanded with a five-floor building of 4000 m². The new building was needed to provide more space to 750 students and approximately one hundred employees.
The new building was designed by architect agency SeARCH and elaborates on anthroposophical notions and ‘organic’ architecture. SeARCH was looking for an appropriate design to give the building a clear architectural presence, while at the same time fitting into the building style of the existing complex. By avoiding right angles and introducing trapezium shapes and red accents to the design, an effort was made to attune it to the existing organic architecture of 1997 as far as possible.
