JZOC Zonneboom in Roosendaal, which was taken into use in September 2018, houses the schools De Sponder and De Fakkel. Children from 4 to 12 years receive special (primary) education here.
RoosRos Architecten about this project: “The students were the main consideration in the design. The school’s setup resembles that of a pavilion. An environment that contributes to the students’ well-being. A clearly organised building, landscaped with a green outdoor playground where the schoolchildren can engage in active play and movement. The pick-up and drop-off strip for the minibus taxis becomes part of the playing area during school hours. The merging with the environment is reinforced by a wooden facade finish. The meandering canopy is both functional and aesthetic. It keeps the sun out, offers space for installations and gives the building a dynamic look”.
