A residential care centre for the elderly was constructed in a beautiful park at the foot of the dunes in Heemstede. The design of Drost + Van Veen Architecten was chosen in a competition. The most important basic principles here were the elderly’s perception of their environment, their need to live independently for as long as possible and the relationship of the building with its surrounding area. In order to make the building less overwhelming it is split into three separate units.
The care facilities are at ground floor level and on the first floor you will find the small scale group homes with independent-living apartments on the next. To give the building a bright appearance it was painted in white. In combination with the wedge-shaped floorplans and layered facades, it gives the building a friendly character. Thanks to its round corners and curves, the building oozes comfort and that with a Heemstede worthy allure.
