The Zuiderzee College started as Compas VMBO on 1 August 2008. Up to and including school year 2011-2012 Compas was housed at two locations, the Provincialeweg location and the Zuiderzee location. As of 1 August 2012, the two locations were united in a new and modern building at the Zuiderzee. With all the students under one roof, the school continues under the new name Zuiderzee College. The new Compas VMBO school in Zaandam was designed by FKG Architecten. The project included the alteration, partial demolition and expansion of the existing building. This is where 800 students come to study each day.
