Along the Albert Canal in Wijnegem the beautiful Kanaal project is being realised at the location of the old malting plant, with facilities for both living and working. The design is in the hands of several leading architect agencies, including Michel Desvigne (landscaping), Bogdan & Van Broeck Architects, Stéphane Beel Architecten and Coussée en Goris. The Silos of the old malting plant were converted into dwellings by architect Stéphane Beel. The objective of the Kanaal project is a pure and human architecture with respect for the historic character of the site and the wishes of its future residents. The Kanaal site encompasses about a hundred apartments that are all different. Each room has its own identity.
As mentor of the project, Axel Vervoordt further explains his vision of the Kanaal project in a short video.
