Even before 1663, there was a sawmill on the site of the current Noordman yard, and timber was traded there. The D.D. Noordman timber merchant operated two mills for a long time, until electricity replaced wind power. In 1920, the ‘De Heesterboom’ mill was fitted with an electric drive, after which the ‘De Eendracht’ mill was demolished in 1922.
Thanks to the Noordman family and volunteers, ‘De Heesterboom’ continued to operate regularly, and timber was once again sawn using traditional wind power. The timber merchant’s business on Haagweg later moved to Oegstgeest. On the vacated site, the new-build project ‘Wonen bij de Molen’ was constructed, comprising 13 flats and 7 waterside homes. Construction began in November 2023 and was completed in the autumn of 2024.
For this project, Leegwater Houtbereiding de has produced the wooden cladding.
This gladdig is made of thermale modified Ayous, which has been installed using open cladding profiles./p>
In addition, it has been treated with a biodegradable, maintenance-free flame retardant, Flame Delay FXPro®.
